UPCOMING TRAININGS

Tyler Orr will be leading this EMDR Basic Training with the Personal Transformation Institute, which meets and exceeds the EMDRIA requirements, including the required10 hours of consultation. The 2 three day training periods cover the Adaptive Information Processing Model, the 8 Phase EMDR Therapy treatment approach, including adaptations for working with Children, Recent Trauma, Dissociation, Pain and other specialties depending on the needs of the participants. We add the S.A.F.E. model which is informed by attachment and somatic therapies. Click here for more information and registration.

If you catch a cold, it’s likely you won’t mistake your runny nose as the source of your ailment. You understand a runny nose is a symptom of something deeper that is going on in your system. It’s easy to see this with a cold, but we are conditioned to believe very differently about pain.

If you go to the doctor with back pain, the usual assumption is there must be something wrong with your back. The medical model holds firmly that pain is the result of tissue damage, but this is often not the case.

Current research suggests that many pathologies are derived from earlier life experiences that are maladaptively stored in the nervous system. Like other mental health issues, pain is often a symptom and indicator of something deeper that is going on in the client’s system. In order to effectively treat pain, we must do more than treat the symptom. We must get to the root.

This training will cover ways to work with pain using EMDR, although the workshop is intended to be useful for those with no prior EMDR training. Topics will include improving client history taking and preparation by teaching current pain neuroscience, as well as somatic and attachment approaches to working with pain. Participants will learn how to target and reprocess past events, present triggers, and future potential challenges to alleviate not only the sensation of pain, but the emotional disturbance and diminished sense of self associated with it.
